Goals lead to success

For the first time ever, I actually sat down and wrote out my goals.

Earlier this summer I began reading the book 9 weeks to music success and the first chapter was all about setting goals. For the first time ever, thanks to Ariel Hyatt’s book. I actually sat down and wrote down my goals. These goals we’re very specific and all related to my music goals. I wish I would have done this sooner, actually I wish I would have stumbled across the book sooner. This also led me to her social media house course which helped me out so much!

I mean for so many months, I think even a year or so. I only had 3o something likes on my facebook page and 60 something followers on twitter. Thanks to this book and of course the author, I now have 91 likes on my facebook page and 710 followers on twitter. Of course these numbers may not seem that high comparing to other musicians out there (who of course have been at this longer than me).

I realized that people weren’t going to take me seriously if I didn’t have any music, this situation had me stuck for a while. I didn’t know what to do, for I couldn’t afford to record at a studio nor I could afford to pay musicians to play the music I want to make. I also realized that I didn’t have a lot of experience with songwriting or composing. I seemed like there was no solution for me, but I knew I needed to have music to attract listeners.

Then suddenly bing! I knew what to do. I bought a blue yeti usb microphone, studio headphones, and downloaded logic pro x. I used this equipment to help me record the three songs I currently, have on soundcloud and reverbnation. I am of course working on recording some more cover songs, especially since I recently got a voice to put behind the microphone to get rid of the echoes of the room and a pop filter.

I realized that people weren’t going to take me seriously if I didn’t have any music

I began recording cover songs so I can at least having something to share with the world, while I am learning how to take logic pro x to the max, mix and master my music and songwrite. I knew that time was of the essence and learning these skills can take some, so meanwhile I will continue recording cover songs and they will get better each time. I also recorded videos of me singing those cover songs. I am now starting to get my views up on youtube too!

I still have many goals to accomplish such as releasing an album by the end of the year, start booking shows and concerts by mid next year, go on tour, become nominated for a grammy, etc. But because I was hungry to start making this dream of mine happen I stumbled upon the book on scribd. Which by the way if you love books, you gotta become a member of scribd, for only $8.99 a month you can read unlimited books on anything and everything. Hell, you can even find sheet music to your favorite artists! Anyway, back to the point because I read 9 weeks to music success I faced my fears and went down a path that I would have never dared to before!

I made myself vulnerable, I released music that is not exactly radio quality and made videos in my bedroom, but I did it because there is no better time than the present. I realized after reading this book that if i keep waiting for everything to be perfect and in perfect timing, I’ll never get myself out there. Which means I would end up waiting for the rest of my life and never even take a stab at it. This is far too important for me to keep procrastinating.

So if you want to start making your dreams happen, write down your goals and look at them everyday.

So if you want to start making your dreams happen or at least start working towards them. Write down your goals and look at them everyday. Your brain will soon start connecting the dots and find a way to start making it happen. It doesn’t need to be grand it only needs to be something you can achieve and before you know it, your goals will start manifesting and your dreams will become reality. Til next time happy goal setting!
